Answer #1

Estimated average requirement of iron for 4 to 8 year children is 4mg/day and RDI is 10mg /day.

Spinach provides most iron in these foods i,e. 3.2 mg per half cup steamed spinach.

By eating more green leafy vegetables.

By increasing the vitamin C rich foods in the mela that enhances the iron absorption .

By decreasing the food content the hinder iron absorption like dairy products containing calcium, polyphenols, tea and coffee, and phytates in cereals and grains.

4. Calcium in milk inhibits iron absorption fro other foods that they eat also milk has low iron content. When children gets lot of milk they don't have enough room for other nutritious food for their diet. Hence, it is potentially a problem for kids to drink more than 2-3 cups of milk in a day.

Worksheet 8-3: Iron and Calcium Intakes The two minerals most likely to fall short in the diet are iron and calcium. Interestingly, both are found in protein-rich foods, but not in the same foods. Meats, fish, and poultry are rich in iron but poor in calcium. Conversely, milk and milk products are rich in calcium but poor in iron. Including meat or meat alternates for iron and milk and milk products for calcium can help defend against iron deficiency and...
