Answer #1

50% percent penetrance means that half of the populations with the heterozygous condition will get the disease even if the mutation is dominant.

Let's make a punnet square with a father of genotype Aa and Mother, aa.

a a
A Aa Aa
a aa aa

From the above cross

The probability of showing normal phenotype = 3/4 (2 from aa and 1/2 from Aa as 50% penetrance is there)

The probability of having two children with normal phenotype = 3/4*3/4= 9/16

Albinism is a genetic disorder caused by an autosomal recessive allele. The dominant allele results in the wildtype pigmentation. a) If an albino marries a homozygous person for the wildtype pigmentation allele, what would be the expected phenotype and genotype of their children? b) If an albino marries a person with wildtype pigmentation but that carries the albino allele, what would be the expected phenotypes and genotypes of their children? c) Two parents of wildtype pigmentation had an albino child....

    1. Polydactyly is a dominant trait with about 63% penetrance. A pregnant woman is heterozygous for the dominant allele, but does not have extra toes or fingers. Her partner does not have polydactyly and is known to be homozygous recessive for the polydactyly gene. What is the probability that their child will be born with polydactyly? 4p

    6. Hemophilia is a sex-linked trait. A person with hemophilia is lacking certain proteins that are necessary for normal blood clotting. Hemophilia is caused by a recessive allele so use "XH” for normal and "Xh" for hemophilia. Since hemophilia is sex-linked, remember a woman will have two alleles (XX) but a man will have only one allele (XY). A woman who is heterozygous (a carrier) for hemophilia marries a normal man: a. What are the genotypes of the parents? b....
