Four main types of sponges based on water flow:

A. Asconoid type of sponge:

i) It is the simplest form of sponges.

ii) It is smaller in size and has a tube shape.

iii) The water flows from the dermal pores to the atrium.

B. Simple syconoid type of sponge:

i) Simple syconoids are quite larger than asconoids.

ii) They have many inward foldings.

iii) In this sponge type, water flows from the canals surrounded by many cells.

C. Complex syconoid type of sponge:

i) These sponge types are more complex than simple syconoids.

ii) They contain tubular spaces.

iii) water flows thriugh the prosopyle.

D. Leuconoid type of sponge:

i) These are the most complex forms of sponges.

ii) They are larger in size.

iii) Water flows from the incurrent canals to the choanocyte chambers.
