Answer: Bacteria which undergoes fermentation yield 2 ATP and 2 NADH+ H+. The ATP consumed in generating metabolic energy however, NADH still present in the system. It has to be return to its oxidized form NAD+. This is accomplishing by reducing pyruvate to acetaldehyde and further to ethanol. NADH oxidized itself by reducing acetaldehyde to the ethanol and thus NAD+ returned in the system for further use.
