Hydropathic index of an amino acid represents the hydrophobicity/ hydrophilicity of its side chain. It is measured by the number. Greater the number greater the hydrophobicity of side chain. Since the hydrophobic segment hate the aqueous environment it is present internally into three dimension shape of protein while hydrophilic segment present on surface.

Tertiary structure of proteins involves interactions such as ionic (salt bridges) and hydrogen bonds, disulphide bonds, and both hydrophobic & hydrophilic bonds.
