Answer #1

Ans) 1) Magnetosome - Inclusion that contains iron

(Magnetosome is an organelle found in magnetotactic bacteria in which iron in the form of magnetite and greigite is enclosed within the lipid bilayer)

2) Glycocalyx - Layer of carbohydrate and protein present in the prokaryotic cell wall.

(In eukaryotes, it serves the role for cell recognition while in prokaryotes like bacteria, its main role is protection from the host white blood cells or macrophages)

3) Plasmid - Genetic information that can move from donor to recipient cell.

4) Biofilm - Community of bacterial cells.

(Some bacteria form biofilms and become pathogenic or virulent. E.g dental plaque)

5) Fimbrae - Hair like structure used for attachment in a prokaryotic cell.

6) Lysozyme - Material secreted that can breakdown peptidoglycan.

(Lysozyme contains many hydrolytic enzymes and has low pH which is maintained by V-ATPase pumps. It can also break the bonds between NAM-NAG(Repeating units of NAM and NAG form peptidoglycan) .

(NAM= N-acetylmuramic acid, NAG = N-acetylglucosamine)

7) Golgi complex - Packages materials from RER

(Golgi complex plays a very important role in vesicular transport. Proteins are packaged, folded and transported to its correct destination with the help of coat proteins like COP-1,COP-2,etc and signal sequence present on the proteins).

8) Outer membrane - A lipid bilayer present in the Gram negative cell wall.

9) Smooth ER - Series of membrane channels that produce lipids.

(It plays a crucial role in lipid synthesis, steroid hormone synthesis like androgens, mineralocorticoids etc, and also plays a major role in detoxification with the help of catalase, peroxidase etc mainly ROS (reactive oxygen species) which has been formed due to the result of metabolism are very reactive like superoxide radical which can even damage the DNA.With the help of catalase, peroxidase, ROS species are converted into harmless products).
