Answer #1

The correct statement is A.

For cellular respiration, plants require oxygen and release carbon dioxide. Combustion of glucose occurs in small steps so that the energy yielded can be coupled to ATP synthesis. Other by-products of the combustion of glucose are carbon dioxide and water molecules.

Glucose (C6H12O6) + Oxygen (O2) \rightarrow Carbon Dioxide (CO2) + Water (H2O) + Energy

Statement B cannot be true because oxygen (O2) is not produced during respiration, rather it is utilized by plants for the combustion of glucose.

Statement C and D cannot be true because during the process of photosynthesis, plants do not produce carbon dioxide (CO2), rather plants utilize the carbon dioxide (CO2) available in the surrounding environment to produce the products of photosynthesis which include glucose, water and oxygen.
