  1. Glycosylation is an enzymatic process that involves attaching glycan residues to proteins and other organic molecules. This process produces functional biopolymers found in cells for e.g. DNA, RNA, proteins, etc.
  2. The protein glycosylation process typically occurs in the rough endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi bodies. It is found basically in the lumen of the ER and Golgi-cisternae.
  3. These protein residues are not found in the cytosol and nucleus due to the difference in the structures of O-linked and N-linked oligosaccharides.
