The functions of water in the body are listed below:

  • It helps in saliva formation. The main component of the saliva is water. The body usually makes enough saliva with regular intake of fluids, but your saliva production may decrease with the increasing age or by certain therapies or by certain medications.
  • The body temperature is regulated by water. The water is lost by the body in the form of sweat that is produced during physical activity and in hot environments. The process of evaporation causes cooling but the body temperature will increase if the lost water is not replenished.
  • It provide protection to the tissues, joints, and spinal cord. Water consumption helps to cushion and lubricate4 the tissues, spinal cord, and joints and prevents from diseases like arthritis.
  • It helps in excreting waste through urination, defecation, and perspiration. The water is used by the body to urinate, sweat, and bowel movements. Enough water intake helps in maintaining healthy stool and avoiding constipation. Adequate water consumption helps the kidney to work efficiently.
  • It helps in the process of digestion.
  • It helps in the absorption of the nutrients.
  • It helps in improving the circulation of oxygenated blood.

Nutrition has a very important role in regulating the blood pressure of the body. A healthy diet reduces the risks of cardiovascular diseases and other diseases.

The severity and incidence of hypertension or high blood pressure are majorly affected by the intake of various nutrients and nutritional status. High intakes of polyunsaturated fatty acids, potassium, and protein, along with possible intake of vitamin D and exercise may reduce the blood pressure.

Proper dietary intake is a crucial factor for bone health. Inadequate nutrients intake that is essential for bone increases the risk for osteoporosis by bone loss. The process of the formation of bones requires a constant and adequate supply of the nutrients like magnesium, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, and fluoride.

Vitamin K and vitamin D are very important for strong bones. Vitamin D plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy bone by helping the body absorb the calcium which is essential for maintaining healthy bone density.
