You have a series of rII mutants but only limited information about them. You have information about every single mutant for the following tests. In test 1, each single mutant is grown on E. coli B, creating a lysate that has a massive number of phage in it. These phage are tittered (tested for infectivity) on E. coli B (to determine total number of particles) and on E. coli K, which can tell us what? (2 points)

A. Plating on K will tell us nothing.

B. Plating on K will tell us something but we need more information.

C. Nothing, because rII mutants are unable to productively infect E. coli K.

D. The number of plaques observed on E. coli K relative to E. coli B will tell us the reversion/suppression rate for an individual rII mutant.

E. The number of plaques observed on E. coli K relative to E. coli B will tell us the recombination rate for an individual rII mutant.

Answer #1

B. Plating on K will tell us something but we need more information.

Plating K might give a hing about reversion/suppresion rates, but it will not be enough to obtain significant information about the rII mutants.

    E. coli strain B is doubly infected with two rII mutants of phage T4. 0.1 ml of a 10^6 dilution of the progeny is plated on E. coli B and 0.1 ml of a 10^5 dilution of the progeny is plated on E. coli K. 400 plaques appeared on strain B, 10 on strain K. You have three genes on the same chromosome - A, B and C. Each gene has two alleles in a dominant/recessive relationship. For these genes the homozygous recessive has the mutant phenotype for that trait, the dominant phenotype = wild type for that trait. allele A is dominant to a; phenotype a = mutant for trait a; phenotype A = wild type for trait A allele B is dominant to b; phenotype b = mutant for trait b; phenotype B...

Please read the article and answer about questions. You and the Law Business and law are inseparable. For B-Money, the two predictably merged when he was negotiat- ing a deal for his tracks. At other times, the merger is unpredictable, like when your business faces an unexpected auto accident, product recall, or government regulation change. In either type of situation, when business owners know the law, they can better protect themselves and sometimes even avoid the problems completely. This chapter...
