"Explain Vmax and Km in terms of your data (use correct units) If you data does not support the standard conclusion, can you ascertain why not? If you data is not suitable to draw a conclusion then you will need to get usable data. But you have to list where you got the data from and explain both sets."

I understand you might not be able to answer this question without my data but can you walk me through how to answer this question?

Answer #1

Vmax is the maximal rate and represents the turnover number of an enzyme if the concentration of active sites is known. Km is a measure of the affinity of an enzyme for its substrate. It is a parameter for comparing enzymes with similar or identical substrates. For practical purposes, Km is the concentration of substrate which permits the enzyme to achieve half Vmax. The units of Km are those of concentration i.e. mM, mM or Km is the concentration of substrate at which half-maximal velocity is observed. Vmax can be expressed in a variety of units depending on what information is available.
