Answer #1

All of our cells originate from diploid zygote. So genetic complement of all the cells are same. Although we have different cells in our body with different function and structure. This is due to the reason that in different cells different sets of genes are active and other genes remain inactive.

For example, In liver cells (hepatocytes) the genes which produce enzymes required for digestion or other liver specific function remain active and expressed while the genes responsible for visibility or light perception remain inactive. On the other hand, in the cells present in our retina of eye, such as rod and cone cells, the genes required for light perception remain active whereas genes for digestion of foods remain inactive. Although in all kinds of cells of our body, the genes which are required for cell maintenance and basic metbolism always remain turned on and express constitutively such as genes for glycolysis or TCA cycle.

So, we can understand due to this differential gene expression in specific type of cells the different cells of our body function differently according to their need.

Given 12 balls with the same diameter and color. They all have the same weight, except one of them which can be lighter or heavier. Show how to identify the ball with different weight with a balance. Any number of balls can be placed on both sides of the balance. Your goal is to design a procedure to identify the ball with different weight in 3 measurements. Can you do it with 2 measurements? Justify your answer.

    9. You wish to study human integrins and decide to use red blood cells (RBCs) as your source of integrins, since RBCs are easy to procure from live donors. After isolating the RBCs you do not find any integrins on the surface of their cell membranes. Considering the functions of integrins, do you think that RBCs really do not have integrins, or do you think it is more likely that you made a mistake in the procedure and that human...

One of your intestinal cells compared to one of your skin cells look very different from one another and serve different functions in your body. How are these two cells so different if they all originated from the same cell? O The two cells use a different genetic code. O The two cells have different genes. The two cells lost different genes through developmental differentiation. O The two cells express different genes.

Many biomolecules contain the same atoms bonded to the same atoms so they have the same molecular formula. Enantiomers are isomers of this type that are mirror images of each other and cannot be superimposed on each other. All properties of enantiorners are identical except they rotate the plane of polarized light in opposite directions and a. they react differently with non-chiral compounds b. they have different specific gravities c. an enzyme that binds one of the enantiomers won't be...

In humans, there are about 200 different types of cells. Why are your liver cells different from skin cells, or neurons, or muscle cells? During development, each cell accumulates different mutations changing their DNA They produce the same proteins but some of those proteins are denatured in each cell They have different DNA and thus, each cell produces different proteins They produce the same kind of proteins but not all proteins are active in each cell They have the same...
