Question 1

Answer: Phosphodiesterase is an enzyme that breaks the phosphodiester bonds in the cGMP and cAMP secondary messenger molecules. In dark cGMP binds to Cyclic nucleotide-gated channels, Ca++/Na+ channels and allow the flow of Ca++ and Na+ ions in to the cell. In light, Phosphodiesterase get activated in the photoreceptor cells and hydrolyze  cGMP leading to closer of Ca++/Na+ channels Hence, Phosphodiesterase hydrolyze the cGMP, which causes Ca++/Na+ channels to close.
