Lichens represent an intimate mutualistic relationship between a fungus and photosynthesising algae or cyanobacteria. Positive inter specific interaction in which members of two different species completely depends on each other for growth and survival. It is obligatory relationship. The mutualism between algae and fungi show its closed relations. In this relationship fungi provides protection, nutrients and moisture to the algae and algae provides food to the fungi.
