Answer #1

It is given that:

The soil consists of 40000 lbs of OM per AFS and 50% of OM consists of carbon. (50% of OM is 20000 lbs)

The OM : N ration is 20:1

This states that for every 20lbs of OM , there is 1lb of N.

Therefore for 40000 lbs of OM, Amount of N= (40000x1)/20 =2000lbs of N.

Therefore, the C : N ratio = 20000:2000 = 10:1 (This also satisfies the typical humus C:N ratio).

Answer: There is 2000lbs of N per AFS of lily soil
