Answer #1

The typical CRISPR/Cas9 system is used to edit the genomes and regulate the gene expression. In this method small RNA molecules called guide RNAs bind to a specific DNA sequence in the genome. Then the Cas9 enzyme is recruited to that tagged place to make a cut in the DNA double helix. The cut alters the coding region of the DNA and thus regulates the gene expression.

But in a modified version of CRISPR/Cas9, the technique is modified in such a way that the CRISPR sequence could recognise the DNA sequence but don't cut them. In this technique the guide RNA tag the sequence of a particular gene. And the Cas9 carries a genetically engineered molecular switch that turns on target gene thus leads to the activation of gene expression.

A number of advances have been made in biotechnology. CRISPR/Cas9 one of the most controversial, and is getting a lot of current media attention. It is a method by which scientists can precisely edit DNA sequences at exact locations. Benefits obviously include the potential to “repair” mutated genes that cause disease. In fact, preliminary results from one of the earliest clinical trials of CRISPR/Cas9 provide evidence that the technique is safe and feasible to use for treating human diseases. What...

Hey, I need help answering these questions, about the introduction of an article about HIV inhibition using adenovirus-delivered CRISPR/CAS9.  Thaanks!! strand, resulting in double-stranded breaks (DSBs) that trigger cellular repai mechanisms. In eukaryotes, the DSBs are more commonly repaired by the mechanism ot error prone non ho mologous end joining (NHEJ), therefore generating sequence changes, for instance insertions and deletians (indels), around the DSBs. Owing to the simplicity of manipulation and versati ity, the CRISPR/Cas9 system has been...

A cell's genome is its blueprint for life. However, what is the bare minimum number of genes needed to sustain a free-living cell? This is a question that microbiologists at the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) have attempted to answer ever since they sequenced the genomes of several Mycoplasma species in the 1990s. Because Mycoplasma species are parasitic bacteria, their genomes are already reduced in size and hence provide an excellent foundation for creating a "minimal cell." However, little did...

    2. A dominant allele H reduces the number of body bristles that Drosophila flies have, giving rise to a “hairless” phenotype. In the homozygous condition, H is lethal. An independently assorting dominant allele S has no effect on bristle number except in the presence of H, in which case a single dose of S suppresses the hairless phenotype, thus restoring the "hairy" phenotype. However, S also is lethal in the homozygous (S/S) condition. What ratio of hairy to hairless flies...
