During 15th century, slave trade forced the migration of culinary diaspora from Africa to America. The process called "Seasoning " were transfered from caribbean islands to the American continent. Hot peppers and spices like Guinea grains were used heavily used for flavouring meat, vegetable salads and rice dishes. The cola nuts were brought from Africa which is the main ingredient in the coke. Also deep frying and barbecuing of meat were migrated during slave trade. Enslaved african chefs were behind in developing certain methods of cooking which later become staple food of America.

African heritage diet starts with daily foods like leafy green vegetables, sweet potatoes, peanuts, whole grain foods etc. Then comes food to be eaten once in a week like egg, yogurt, meat and certain home made sauces.

The soul food usually consist of essential carbs, dietry fibers, fats, proteins and vitamins. 30% of calories should come from fats and less than 10% from saturated fat to keep a healthy diet. Fibre rich food helps to control bowel movement and reduce blood pressure and sugar level. Macro level nutrients also play a vital role in day today food habit.
