Answer #1

Photosynthesis:
6CO2 + 6H2O --------> C6H12O6 + 6O2
Reactants = CO2 and H2O
Products = C6H12O6 + 6O2

Photosynthetic light reactions occur in the thylakoid discs. they produce ATP and NADPH required for the dark reactions.
Photosynthetic dark reactions occur in the stroma. They produce carbohydrate.

For the light reactions to occur, sunlight is necessary. So, light can also be considered as an input. Light is absorbed by photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll, carotenoids, and xanthophylls).

CO2 is taken up by stomata.

H2O is transported via vascular tissue (Xylem). Many enzymatic reactions in photosynthesis also required metal ion cofactors. Such minerals are also transported via xylem.
Ex: Photolysis of water requires Mn+2 ions.

  • How Do Chloroplasts Capture Energy from the Sun?

    How Do Chloroplasts Capture Energy from the Sun? Plant cells and some algae contain an organelle called the chloroplast. The chloroplast allows plants to harvest energy from sunlight, a process known as photosynthesis. Specialized pigments in the chloroplast absorb sunlight and use this energy combine carbon dioxide and water to make glucose and oxygen. The complete reaction is: 6CO2 + 6H2O + C6H12O6 + 6O2 Raw Materials (Reactants) CO2 = carbon dioxide H2O = water Products C6H1206 = glucose O2 = oxygen Plant cells can...

    In this experiment, you will measure the rate of photosynthesis in isolated chloroplasts using the dye 2,6-dichloroindophenol (DPIP). The transfer of electrons during the light-dependent reaction results in the production of H+. This H+ ion can reduce DPIP, changing its color from blue to clear. The color can be quantitatively measured with a spectrophotometer. However, in this experiment, you will qualitatively analyze your data. Write a detailed conclusion for your experiment. How did light affect the time it took for...
