Answer

Algal bloom is fast growth in the population of algae in aquatic system.Algal bloom occurs in both marine and fresh water.Increase in the population growth depends on the species.

Algal bloom occurs if excessive nutrient like phosphorous and nitrogen available in water, this causes increase growth of algae and green plants.Algae uses these nutrients and multiplies hundred to thousand cell per ml ,according to the species.Algae and other plant increases and other organism died. thus dead organism is food source for bacteria(blue green algae) .Bacteria uses dissolve oxygen in the water and leading the death of fish and aquatic insect because of insufficient oxygen. Then algal bloom responsible for making dead area.

Blue green algae also known as cyanobacteria (a bacteria) causes algal bloom (marine bloom).

Blue green algae produces some harmful toxins (neurotoxins, microcystins),which causes damage to the nerve tissues of aquatic organism.
