Sessile animals are the animals that are unable to locomote. They are stagnant at a single point and attach to a surface. They absorb nutrients from the surface they are attached to or from the surroundings like water which carries food in floating form.

These animals compete for the floating particles of food in water by acquiring more space. More the space that has been taken up by the animal more is the amount of food that they can absorb.
