Culture is a set of shared symbols, ideas, beliefs, and customs that shape individual and group behaviour. It is true that at each stage to development, culture can have a distinct impact on basic aspects of life. Though culture is socially transmitted and not genetically inherited it can still have significant effects on the overall well-being of an individual. This is because culture can have direct impact on the way patients and the healthcare providers view the idea of illness and getting sick. Also, the reasoning a culture can have on the cause of that disease can also have a strong impact on the health and treatment of that individual. Apart, from our well being culture also shapes a major part of our personality. It has been observed by several academicians that the people who are born within the same cultures experience common personality traits. This is also because every culture has a set of community values and ideological standpoints about their views regarding the rights and wrongs in the society. These views may be ideological, moral, or social but they surely have great effects on the personality of the individual who belongs to that culture.
Culture also significantly affects our relationship as a relationship needs most of the things that we have acquired from the culture. Namely, communication, morals and the idea of right and wrongs. Therefore culture greatly influences the development throughout our lifespan as it also has a major effect on the kind of social relationships that the individual is going to have through his lifespan. Cognition is also fundamentally cultural as the way we act and understand the world is greatly influenced by all the cultural aspects like communication, taboos, gender roles etc. Therefore, we have seen that at each stage of development in the life of an individual, cultural plays an important part in the development.
