Taxon is a species or family present on a phylogenetic tree whereas a clade is a group of taxon on a phylogenetic tree. Taxon is any rank, a species, or family or order or class or even kingdom. Group of any one of these can form a clade. These two concepts are not related to time in the tree and therefore, not drawn to scale.
