Most of the neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine, noradrenaline cause opening of the sodium channels upon binding to their receptors.

For example, at the neuromuscular junction, the nerve does not contain myelin sheath and gets expanded, which contains the stores of acetyl choline (Ach) in synaptic vesicles, which act as a neurotransmitter at neuromuscular junction. Binding of Ach to the muscle receptor causes depolarization (influx of sodium ions) of muscle fibres and muscle contraction.
