One on-going source of potential hotel conflict involves the F&B department and the sales and marketing department. As a future GM, do you believe that catering event coordination management should be a part of the sales and marketing department or the F&B department? Support your response.

Sales and marketing departments link the internal processes of the company to the customers. They must know the fine points of catering event co ordination department as well as F&B department to be better equipped to respond to the customer queries regarding the capabilities and constraints of the internal processes of the company so that they might make informed marketing decisions and communicate and promise the customers only what they can fulfil. It will help them to close the deals faster. However, the catering event co ordination department is more closely related to the F&B department rather than marketing and sales department. It should, however be in constant touch with marketing people to ensure seamless balance between the demand and supply of events to be catered, while working closely with the F&B to organise the events that create value for customers.

The rationale behind my decision is the fact that Catering event coordinators work hand in glove with the F&B to organise an event, while marketing department have limited periodic interaction with these departments usually while closing deals and sharing feedback from customers.
