Autosomal recessive gene is a gene that needs two alleles to express the trait. A single allele of this is not enough to manifest the traits. In order to be resistant to malaria, at least on allele is required. So, the mother’s genotype is Xx. (x-indicates the defective allele).

And the father’s genotype is XY.

25% of children (Xx genotype) would also be immune to malaria.

25% of children would have sickle cell disease (xY-since men has only one X chromosome, which is enough to cause the disease.)
