El Niño is an event in which a series of climatic changes take place. It is characterized by the appearance of unusually warm, nutrient-deficient water in northern Peru and Ecuador. What do these characteristics indicate? What are the consequences?

El nino effect : is applied to the warm ocean currents that run southward along the coast of peru at the time of Christmas.

THE CONSEQUENCES OF WARMING:

  • Shifts The atmospheric circulation.
  • Rainfall are reduced ( in Australia and Indonesia)
  • Rainfall and tropical cyclone incidence increases over the tropical Pacific ocean .
  • Trade winds that usually blowed from east to west start blowing in the opposite direction or may weaken.
  • If this condition last for several months extensive warming of sea water and nutrient depletion may cause difficulty to fishes inside the sea and fishing also and may effect the international export market.
  • It can also increase the price of the commodity which leads to inflation in the price of that commodity.
  • Poor countries that mostly rely on the exported food from other countries might be hugely affected.
  • If the wind patter remain as it is the constant warming can be a cause of outburst of many epidemic diseases. For eg malaria and dengue in India and encephalitis in Australia.
