What are your thoughts on using the cloud for BCP and DRP? What are some of the issues or risks which can happen when transferring to the cloud? What are the benefits?
Hi,
Please find the answer below:
What are your thoughts on using the cloud for BCP and DRP?
Using cloud for BCP/DRP has many benefits and advantages especially for small and medium sized companies (SMB’s). Having a BCP and DRP plan in place and implementing is expensive.
Implementing Data Recovery in-house in the company is inefficient when compared to a DRaaS solution by a cloud provider like VMWare, AWS etc.
What are some of the issues or risks which can happen when transferring to the cloud?
Selecting the right cloud provider is always a challenging task for a company.
Company has less control over the customer data and visibility.
Sensitive customer data resides with the cloud provider. Company should understand the security and privacy policies of the cloud provider.
Less probable but still the case, Cloud provider outage can happen along with your outage or event.
(Cloud provider is also an IT firm !)
What are the benefits?
Cloud allows you to choose DC's that are located in different geo-locations across the globe.
It is risky to have all operations in one location. Natural catastrophic events like flood, fire, quake etc can impact the company operations.
Cloud removes the Single point of failure with distributed infrastructure.
Efficient and HA(high availability )
If right cloud provider is chosen the data recovery service (DRaaS ) would be cost effective for the company.
Company can save money associated with data centers and physical hardware costs like disks, Hard drives etc.
Cloud solution is on-demand and Scalable i.e. elastic.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

thoughts and feedback on this? With a tight budget, I would use both cloud computing and virtualization, thus using a hybrid approach. Also some of our campuses servers would be local and others not. There are many reasons but the main reasons would be: - Redundancy and backups - Hybrid environments for students and faculty to practice on - To keep up with the pace of technology For convenience, we'd use both Azure and AWS for cloud computing and virtualization....
