Answer #1

Species A 2n=6 (Non-disjunction results in double the expected number of chromosomes in a cell.
e.g. after meiosis the expected chromosome number in the gamete cell is n , but if non-dysjunction occurs during meiosis then the gamete will end up with 2n that is twice the expected number of chromosomes).

Therefore the expected number of chromosome due to non disjunction in (species A) 2n = 6

Species G 2n=8

As it is normal so due to meiosis the expected number of chromosome n in (species G) n = 8/2 = 4

Therefore,

OFFSPRINGS WILL HAVE NUMBER OF CHROMOSOME 3n= 4+6= 10

3n= 4+6= 10 (3n = expected number of chromosome in species G + expected number of chromosome in species A)

If non-disjunction produces a diploid (2n) gamete and it then fuses with a normal haploid (n)
gamete, then a triploid (3n) organism would be formed (but it would be infertile as each
chromosome would not have a homologous pair at meiosis).

QUESTION 5 You cross want to create a new hybrid plant. You cross Plant 1 (2n=10) with Plant 2 (2n=14) and generate a generation of hybrid plants. Most of the hybrid plants are infertile, however, you do find a hybrid plant that is fertile. You reason that this plant must have undergone a non-disjunction event that now rendered it fertile. If your reasoning is correct, how many chromosomes does this fertile hybrid plant have? O a. 24 Ob. 12 O...

Zylins are a diploid, 2n = 6, species and a common mutation found in baby Zylins is trisomy 3 (2n +1).  You are trying to determine if this trisomy is more commonly caused by nondisjunction events during egg formation or sperm formation.  A Southern blot, labeled with a probe for RFLPs on chromosome 3, for one of your test families is shown below (a thicker, darker line indicates twice the amount of DNA; a text description of the gel follows): Six lanes...
