1. A hydrocarbon is an organic compound consisting entirely of hydrogen and carbon.

2. Polarity:Hydrocarbons are molecules that have little or no polarity because they do not contain electronegative atoms.

Solubility:Hydrocarbons are non polar and so should be soluble in non polar solvent and insoluble in polar solvent.

Density:Liquid hydrocarbons are less dense than water. The density of methane is less dense than air but propane and butane is denser than air.
