IN AMERICAN'S OBSESSION WITH HATRED AND VIOLENCE...
DISCUSS How Jody M. Roy finished her book with a "conclusion:
freeing ourselves from our obsession with hatred and violence" and
wrote about her case study Matthew Shepard to show how people can
stand up to hatred and violence?
In the case study Matthew Shepard, Mathew’s parents rather than quietening down in their grief and devastation after their son’s murder, chose to stand up against the hate crime and started campaigning and rallying to bring about an awareness in people to stop hate crimes, they pushed for better laws that would deal with crimes based on hatred and violence in a more efficient way. They created The Matthew Shepard Foundation in order to create greater awareness across the entire country. Many events were conducted under the banner which aimed at increasing tolerance in people and to fight for equal rights for all. It started organizing fundraisers to support the cause and also any other similar causes that needed immediate attention. Mathew’s parents chose to stand up and fight to make the world a better place by trying to get rid of hate and create more tolerance. The foundation is an example of making your voice heard which is an inspiration for everyone to take action than succumbing to victimhood caused by hatred and violence.

But we also met with unions, politicians, activists, NGOs, U.N. organizations, and carpet export organizations. We even went out on unannounced carpet factory raids with local NGOs; we saw child labor, and we were thrown out...
