Every day, we make many decisions based on our needs, our assets, and our desires and what is available to meet these.

A Recommendation Report is simply a formalized written statement of this that businesses use to make decisions. They often use it to make decisions to purchase equipment or to make decisions to move or change something, perhaps even whether or not they need to hire workers.

First, a business must decide what is the issue. In the case of the example I talked about earlier in class, the lawyer’s office needed a new printing system.   The old one was not keeping up with the demand. This will relate to the first memo (due April 1) that you will do as part of the assignment. What is the issue? It may be buying a new computer or a new refrigerator, which playground equipment to purchase for your church group, or finding daycare for your child. The assignment lends itself to purchasing something. Do not make the recommendation report about something that is not quantifiable, like deciding on who to fall in love with or even what dress to pick. Remember that this is a business writing class and you need to be thinking about how businesses make decisions.

Once you know what the issue is, before you just go out and buy something, you must decide on what you require. These are the criteria. Some criteria are necessary and must be met.
Once your necessary criteria are established, then you may have criteria that are desirable – you would like it, but it’s not required. In order for any criteria to be useful, they must be specific. In other words, you can’t just say that you want to find a gym that is “close.” Remember that you are having to present this to others to make a decision and “close” may mean something very different to them than it does to you. Criteria has to be specific enough to be able to be tested.   So, close will need to be defined in terms of miles (2 miles from UHD for example), or zip code, etc.

You must start thinking in terms of how decisions are made in a business rather than just personally where price may be the primary (maybe the overriding) consideration. Whoever is gathering the information, processing it, analyzing it and then recommending a solution is critical to the workings of the company and will be looked at to justify their recommendation with facts and judgement.

In Our personal life or business life, we make many decisions. These decisions are based on certain criteria which we need to consider in order to make decisions. I think there should be desirable criteria because desirable criteria helps to strengthen necessary criteria and helps in making effective decision.

For example- My company need a Sales person who would go to field and bring sales from customers. In this we know our necessary criteria like sales person must have bachelor's degree, mimium of one year experience in sales, Good in communication.

When candidates comes for interview and we find that one candidate have Master's degree in sales and marketing, 3 years of experience also speak three languages then we select that candidate immediatly because we get more than our neccessary criterias.

I think we need more than one criteria in order to make a decision because when we have more criterias then we are able to evaluate alternatives and get the best decisions ou of it.

We should first identify our need or problem and define it first so that we can know what we want to achieve. then look for data and gather information from other sources like market, relatives, retailers,experts,etc anyone who can provide us useful information then evaluate alternatives with each criteria.

for example- we want to buy a Car then we set criteria low price around $20000 to $30000, red in color, good after sales service, insurance, good milage. then we collect information online, salesperson,relatives etc as options to meet our criteria.
