Answer #1

separates molecules based on size and charge= gel electrophoresis ( separates molecules based on size and charge in presence of electric field)

starts with lysis of cells= DNA Extraction ( cell lysis is necessary to open up DNA from cell nucleus)

makes copies of specific DNA regions = polymearase chain reaction (PCR is in vitro form of DNA replication)

detects the presence of specific DNA sequences= Southern blotting (radio labeled probes are used to detect specific DNA sequence, probes are synthetic known sequence of DNA which is complementary to target DNA sequence)

detects the expression of specific genes = Northern blotting ( it is used to detect presence of RNA, when gene express then it produce mRNA and this mRNA are detect in this method)

A cell's genome is its blueprint for life. However, what is the bare minimum number of genes needed to sustain a free-living cell? This is a question that microbiologists at the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) have attempted to answer ever since they sequenced the genomes of several Mycoplasma species in the 1990s. Because Mycoplasma species are parasitic bacteria, their genomes are already reduced in size and hence provide an excellent foundation for creating a "minimal cell." However, little did...
