Describe how each stage in the listening process influences your ability to send and share messages.

Think of a time when you heard the words someone said, but you interpreted them differently than was intended. what happened? how did you resolve the misunderstanding?.

Stages of listening are hearing, attending,interpreting,remembering and responding.

Hearing : Words has to be heard at exact phonemes or it can affect the entire listening process

Attending : Each word needs to be attended otherwise sound stimulus may not pass for interpreting.

Interpreting : It is the cognitive process of retrieving information from stimuli, errors in interpretation affects quality of listening.

Remembering : If the remembering process is not done properly, there will be problem in response

Responding : Even though listening happened correctly, errors can happen at responding like false pronunciation or improper selection of words.

One time at evening tea time my Mom said " lets chat" and i immediately started to send texts over my phone. She meant an actual chat with her as she no longer gets enough time to make conversation in between busy schedules of both of us. To avoid such misunderstandings, I should attend to communication more precisely. In my case I should have seen her face while she said '' lets chat''.
