In this unit, you learned that a felony conviction could cause a person to lose certain civil rights, like the right to vote. Do you think this is fair? Why, or why not? What do you think the victim or victim's family's perspective is on this? What about the perspective of the offender?

Answer #1

A felony conviction could cause a person to lose his ceratin civil rights, like the right to vote and it is fair. This is because all citizens or people of a land are always asked to abide by the law, and never to indulge in any criminal activity. Hence, if a person even after knowing all these aspects indulges in such criminal activities loses the right and is penalized by not proving the basic civil rights. Furthermore, it is only the civil rights that is taken away and not the human rights away from the offender.

The family of the victim or the victim itself has thought that it is right and just to penalize and individual by taking away his civil rights.

The perspective of the offender is different and still emphasizes on receiving the civil right similar to a free and innocent person/citizen.
