Ans. Reasons to perform direct mount examination on every specimen:-

1. Direct mount examination shows exactly what is present on the surface without any alternative laborative procedures. There are times when cultures are helpful and important also. But the cultures of swabs and bulk samples should always be associated by direct mount examination.

2. Direct mount examination is also helpful during stained or unstained mount preparation. Fixed stain smears of clinical samples is very useful and provide etiological diagnosis of an infectious process through which we can intiate appropriate therapy.
