Where do both peristalsis and segmentation occur?
a) small intestine
b) large intestine
c)esophagus
d) stomach
Why is the answer in the stomach?
Peristalsis and segmentation are two types of the smooth muscle movements of the GI tract in the body. Peristalsis helps in pushing the food downward in one direction while segmentation does not help for net movement of food inside the GI tract. Both Peristalsis and Segmentation are triggered by pacemaker cells, hormones.and both need circular muscle to function which is mainly found in stomach .So both occur more in stomach than intestine.
