Answer #1

Light color in Garden Soil usually indicates towards Deficient amounts of Organic Matter in the soil. Organic Matter also called Humus is the decomposed form of organic matter such as Vegetation residue, fruit peels, animal waste etc.

So if there is lack of Organic matter in the soil your neighbor should add some organic manure and other matter, described above to add Humus to the soil. This is because organic matter increases the moisture holding capacity of the soil. So plants can take benefits of it. This also helps in development of worm activities which add further organic matteral to soil. This makes the texture of soil better and aeration of soil better. Organic matter also produce weak acids which are used by plants. So this can improve the growth and health of plants.
