ANSWER :

During fasting when there is very low or no carbohydrate in the body, the body cells specially of brain metabolise fatty acids into ketone bodies to obtain energy. But once body fat gets deplete, cells used to obtain energy from the metabolism of proteins (amino acids) via gluconeogenesis process in the liver.
