Answer #1

Let R be the allele for red-eye and r for white eye

The expected ratio of red to the white eye is 3:1.

or 3/4 red-eye flies and 1/4 white eye flies

Total progenies = 134+ 66 = 200

Expected red-eye flies - 3/4*200 = 150

Expected white-eye flies - 1/4*200 = 50.

Observed Expected O-E (O-E)2 (O-E)2/E
Red 134 150 -16 256 1.706667
White 66 50 16 256 5.12
Total 200 6.826667

So the Chi-square value is 6.826.

BIO340 Recitation 5 Spring 2020 Your professor is having you look at two genes in Drosophila fruit flies to determine experimentally whether they are linked. One trait is eye color and two alleles are present at the gene: se+ is the wild-type allele for red eyes, and se is the mutant, recessive allele for sepia eyes. The second trait is body color and two alleles are present at this gene: e+ is the wild-type allele for grey body, and e...

A mating between a heterozygous individual and a homozygous recessive individual results in 11 heterozygous progeny and 22 homozygous individuals. Do these observations fit a hypothesis of a 1:1 ratio of phenotypes? Conduct a Chi-square test to determine if these observations fit the hypothesis. Include: 1. The Chi-square value 2. The number of degrees of freedom 3. The p-value 4. Interpret what the p-value means. HTML Editor
