There are basically 2 types of variables in an experiment. These are dependent variable and an independent variable. Independent variable is normally plotted on the x-axis while depended variable is normally plotted on the y-axis.

The statement that best describes a dependent variable is that it is a A variable observed in relationship to the variable manipulated by the researcher. Hence, second option is correct.
