DNA analysts calculate the likelihood that a person is consistent with an evidentiary DNA profile. Why do we never say the DNA is a 100% match? Please explain why we use statistics.
In Forensic sciences, evidentiary DNA sample sequence is matched with suspected individuals. The one with maximum similarity in sequence is consistent with the DNA in question, but we can never be 100% sure of this match.
Analysts calculate the likelihood of a person being consistent with a given DNA sample. We never say the DNA is a 100% match. This is because there can be other individuals in the population with same sequence entirely due to random chance. Apart from this fact, there are chances of error during handling and processing of DNA samples, which means efficiency can never be 100%for DNA profile matching experiments.

It is commonly believed that the more often we encounter someone, the more we end up liking the person. If the person “mirrors” our actions when we talk to them (e.g., smiling when we smile, touching our hair when we touch our hair), we like them even more than previous tests show. To test this hypothesis, a researcher has randomly assigned equal numbers of male (n=10) and female (n=10) students to meet with a confederate who they have never met...
Question One A market research company examines the relationship between wine consumption and whether a person likes to watch professional tennis on television. One hundred randomly selected people are asked whether they drink wine and whether they watch tennis. The following results are obtained: Watch tennis Do not watch tennis Totals Drink wine 16 24 40 Do not drink wine 4 56 60 Totals 20 80 100 1) What is the appropriate test for this problem? 2) Set up the...

If we are interested in parameters, why do we calculate statistics, instead? 1. 2. Martha is going to take a sample of 10,000 dogs. She is interested in finding out how long it takes the average dog to run 100 meters. Because many dogs are big and fast and many dogs are small and (relatively) slow, the distribution of how long it takes to run 100 meters is not at all normal. Why is it safe for Martha to assume...
1. Why do we need different formulas to calculate test statistics and obtain p-values? Select all that apply. V The choice of test statistic depends on whether data is randomly sampled or not; this determines the sampling distribution. The choice of test statistic is arbitrary, choose whichever seems easiest to use at the time. The choice of test statistic is up to the statistician. We can choose any of the given test statistics to test any of the hypotheses so...
QUESTION 1 Match the sentence to the fallacy it commits. 2. * Why should I listen to anything Joe Biden says? The man is a total loser and moron! 1. planning fallacy If we put any restrictions on automatic weapons, next thing you know, all guns will be illegal! 2. ad hominem The police should be able to search people's cars without a 3. narrative warrant. If the defensive types of language most often create negative communication climate, explain why you feel we use this type of language so often when interacting with others with whom we share a relationship. What is one strategy you think you can use to do a better job of using supportive language (or avoid using defensive language) to create a positive communication climate? Imagine that you were the recipient of one of the defensive language statements given above and described...

Once you are infected with herpes virus, you will never get rid of it. Why does this virus remain in your body? 3 1pt. What is one reason why condoms only reduce the rate of transmission by 50% ? Question with multiple parts; please help. 1. a) The SI unit of charge is the coulomb and the SI unit of capacitance is the farad (F). What do we mean when we say these units are "ridiculously large?" b) Explain why the electric field at the surface of a conductor must be perpendicular to the surface. c) Use Gauss's law to explain why any excess charge on a conductor must lie on the surface. d) Explain physically (no equations) why...
A). (Worth 25 points). The MICRO INN Hotel charges $15 per person for breakfast and serves approximately 100 guests per day. A local coffee shop, a few blocks away, charges $10 for breakfast and serves approximately 200 customers per day. When the MICRO INN increased the price for its breakfast to $18, the number of guests having breakfast in the hotel decreased to 90 and the number of customers having breakfast in the local coffee shop increased to 210, inswer...
