Measurement system analysis is a mathematical method of finding variation that exists within a measurement process.

Measurement system analysis (MSA) should be used because of the following :

• MSA assure data collected is accurate.
• Prevents wastage of time.
• Prevents wastage of labor efforts.
• If ineffective system analysis is selected than it may allow bad parts to be accepted and good parts to be rejected. But MSA prevents such problem by assuring data collected is accurate.

Uses of Measurement system analysis

• To measure systems capability.
• To evaluate quality of data.
• Data collected should be evaluated for stability and linearity.
• Data classification.
• To evaluate proper accuracy.

Stability studies refers to a change in the measurement bias over a period.

Linearity analysis refers to a change in the bias value within the range of normal process operation.
