Process of sperm formation begins when spermatogonium, diploid cells undergoes mitosis to form primary spermatocyte, which are also diploid cells. Primary spermatocyte undergo meiosis l to form secondary spermatocyte, which are haploid cells. Secondary spermatocyte participate in meiosis ll and forms the haploid cells known as spermatids. Spermatids get differentiated by a process known as sperminogenesis to form 4 haploid spermatozoa or sperm cells. So one cycle of mitosis, one complete cycle of meiosis and then differentiation forms sperm.
