In an African tribe, there is a dominant HbT allele, which encodes the sickling form of hemoglobin when homozygous. There are 98 HbA/HbA individuals, 62 HbA/HbT individuals and no HbT/HbT individuals. What type of inheritance is this?

Mendelian inheritance

Blended inheritance

Dominant lethal

Recessive lethal

Polygenic

Answer #1

The alllele HbT only shows lethality in homozygous form but not in heterozygous form. Which means the other allele HbA is dominant over it or HbT is recessive to HbA.

So HbA/HbA and HbA/HbT do not show lethal character but HbT/HbT shows lethal character and thus there is no HbT/HbT individual in the community.

So the HbT genes act as a recessive gene which only expresses in homozygous condition. Thus this is a form of Recessive lethal inheritance.

In simple Mendelian inheritance alleles display a simple dominant/recessive relationship. There are many exceptions to Mendelian laws of inheritance. Most genes have more than two allelic forms and do not exhibit simple Mendelian inheritance. The human ABO antigens are an example of a multiple allelic trait. There are three ABO blood group antigens, IA, IB and i. The i allele is recessive to both IA and IB. A person who is homozygous ii has type O blood and does not...

With respect to genetics, ABO blood types are controlled by a single gene designated I, which has three alleles. The I A allele gives blood type A, I B gives blood type B, and i gives blood type O. The I A and I B alleles are codominant and i allele is recessive to both the I A and I B alleles. Aside from the I alleles, there are two other genes that when mutated affect ABO blood type inheritance....

Arabidopsis thaliana, a plant, has small leaf projections called trichomes. A search for mutants revealed two mutant strains, A and B, both of which lack trichomes. Strain A plant was propagated until it was completely true-breeding and then crossed to a true-breeding wild-type plant. The F1 was all wild-type. The F2 results are below. The plant geneticist was unable to form a true-breeding plant from strain B plant. When a strain B mutant was crossed to wild-type, the F1 data...
