research question is : how moisture affect microbial growth and my experience : the effect of water on microbial growth by taking a sample from dry rock and from a wet rock

When we talk about moisture affect on microbial growth bacteria needs water to grow and without water source. Moist areas are particularly prone to bacterial growth. For example certain foods can be dehydrated or freeze died which removes most of the water and moisture from the food which can allow us for longer storage without bacterial growth.

According to the question if we take the sample of dry rock and we want to see the effect of water on microbial growth so I want to tell you that water is the is the primary factor which limits the microbial growth on dry rocks because phosphate and carbon present in the rock supress the final cell densities by atleast one order of magnitude under saturated conditions.

But if we take wet rock water is the indicator of shelf life and stability of the wet rock because it's utilises the microorganism for their natural metabolic activity.The presence of water on wet rock has a significant effect on its deterioration, water activity is the measure of the amount of water for biological reaction therefore for the growth of microorganisms.
