In nature, substances with like charges repel each other, whereas substances with opposite charges attract each other. DNA has a net negative charge due to the sugar phosphate backbone. Thus, for a protein to bind DNA, it must possess the opposite charge,i.e. should have positive charge. Thus, the  binding pocket of the protein PDX-1 that helps it attach to the DNA backbone should be :
