Why do conservation initiatives like Y2Y aim to protect large and continuous tracts of land?

How can protection be accomplished on such large landscapes with mixes of ownership and

uses?

The conservation initiatives aim to protect large and continuous tracts of lands because of the wide-ranging movements of animals such as wolves and bears. Many animals when placed in isolated areas or national parks or in smaller areas were eventually killed,hunted,or died from diseases,fires and many other causes. So, the scientists and conservationists planned of an united approach to land management that would design and build parks and protected areas within an environment of public and private lands. These lands would be managed to support the ability of wild species to live and move through them.

There are many scientists, environmental non-governmental organisations, many leaders within these organizations. They formed a unpaid coordinating committee. Their role was to advance the protection. These organizations have set some goals on how to protect the lands. This requires involvement of hundreds of organisations and thousands of individuals. Thus the protection can be accomplished on such large lands when thousands of people and hundreds of organizations involve in this conservation.
