This assignment is due day 4 (Thursday). Late submissions will not be accepted.

The critical assignment in this course is a nutrient deficiency report. Make sure you incorporate all of the feedback you received from each supportive submission assignment and cover all of the components of the assignment in your paper before submission.

Your report should provide a detailed and well-developed explanation of what was learned including which steps were utilized in analyzing the deficiency.

Any presentation on a nutrient deficiency would not be complete without discussing each of the following topics:

  1. A description of the deficiency. Identify the key problems, issues, and macro/micronutrients, define nutrition deficiency and types of macro-micro nutrients lacking in the deficiency then provide a rationale for choosing it as your topic of interest.
  2. Background information, including relevant facts, and the most important issues.
  3. Qualitative and quantitative data: Discuss the prevalents/statistics/amount/quantity of the nutrition deficiency.
  4. Steps implemented. Trace a chronological progress of steps taken (or not taken) to combat the nutrition deficiency.
  5. Recommendations to improve the deficiency. You could also critique already established recommendations.
  6. Finally, you are expected to provide an explanation of possible future directions and what you learned from doing this assignment. (You must integrate the information learned throughout the course to answer these questions. As a reminder, the critical assignment for this course and must be passed at an acceptable rate in order to pass the course. The final paper should be no less than 6pages)

Answer #1

Deficiency is defined as a lack or shortage of something in a body. Macronutrients are needed in larger quantities. Some of the macronutrients are water, carbohydrates, fats and proteins. They are also called energy providing nutrients. Micronutrients are needed in smaller amounts to the body. There are many micronutrients such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium and potassium. These are essential for the normal growth and development of the body.

A nutritional deficiency occurs when the body does not absorb or get the necessary amount of nutrients from the food. Deficiency can lead to several health problems. These problems may be digestive, skin disorders, defective bone growth and many more.

There are various disorders that results from nutritional deficiency. These are as follows:

1. Rickets results from the deficiency of calcium.

2. Goiter results from the deficiency of iodine.

3. Anemia results from the deficiency of iron.

4. Growth retardation occur due to deficiency of zinc.

5. Scurvy occurs due to deficiency of vitamin C.

The following steps should be followed to combat the nutritional deficiency:

1. Add fiber in the diet.

2. Get proper vitamin D.

3. Eat healthy fats and omega-3 fats.

4. Consume magnesium rich foods.

5. Boost antioxidants in the diet.
