Regarding the Alu element in the TPA-25 gene...

1. Based off of your genotypes (Alu insert null), what conclusions can you make about your biological parent’s genotype?
2. Why do you think there are different genotypes associated with Alu elements.. ie Why doesn't everyone have the number of Alu inserts?
3. What could be a negative consequence of Alu insertions and why?

The biological parent's genotype will be Alu insert null that is the genotype will be (-/-) that is homozygous for the absence of the insert.

Alu inserts are short interspersed elements and such elements are present in TPA gene known as TPA-25.Such inserts are dimorphic in nature,that is it is found in some individuals and absent in others.So everyone doesn't have the number of Alu inserts.

Negative consequences of Alu insertions:
Alu insets becomes integrated in the genomic DNA and results in inactivation of some genes and the effects of such inactivation can be deleterious to an organism.
