Business Ethics: What is transformational leadership, and can you think of a kind of organization to which it might be well suited?
Transformational leadership can be understood as the type of leadership where the leader and the followers raise each other, constantly learning from each other and constantly motivating each other in order to gain better functioning outlook for the process. We can say that in a transformative leadership, the leader plays the role of not only a motivator and a guide but also as a role model, making sure they can “walk the walk rather than just talk the talk” which inspires the members of the team to perform better with their own abilities and change their outlook completely.
I believe an organization like Volkswagen could benefit from a transformational leadership style, especially since we have been through the emission scandal of the company in the year 2015, where it was concluded that the leadership and the management was at the center of it all and therefore, the entire organization followed their leaders, ending up involving themselves in unethical practices in order to have a favorable business outcome, but, with transformational leadership, the company could implement changes which are ethical, beneficial as well as learn from their leaders in order to create a better stand for themselves in the future.
